    FAQ COSMETIC TATTOOING

    FAQ MICROBLADING/FEATHERING

    WHAT IS FEATHER-TOUCH BROW TATTOOING?

Feather-touch brow tattoo is a very popular semi permanent make up brows techniques using a hand-tool with a cluster of fine probes, which is used to implant pigment into the skin to create life- like hair strokes and natural-looking eyebrows. We draw each individual hair strokes following your natural hair growth and direction.

IS IT LIKE A BODY TATTOO?

It is not the same as body tattooing. The main difference between a traditional body tattoo and a cosmetic tattoo is the type of equipment used and the depth of the pigment implanted. Unlike body tattooing, you do not bleed during the procedure.

    WHAT DOES A CONSULTATION INVOLVE?

Medical consultation form can be sent to clients if required, upon the payment of $100 deposit to confirm their bookings. You have enough time to have a look at it and give our specialist a call for any further questions and concerns.

However, all our cosmetic tattoo treatments include a 30 minute consultation takes place before treatment (on the same day or separate if requested). This covers the medical consultation to make sure you are an eligible candidate for cosmetic tattooing, treatment in depth, your desired/ recommended eyebrow shape, pigment colour and aftercare instructions.

HOW DO YOU SELECT THE BEST COLOUR & SHAPE?

Prior to treatment we spend roughly 20 minutes on the design of your tailored brows to give you the most natural and appropriate shape and colour to suit your specific facial features, natural brow line, skin tone, and hair colour. You may like to bring along your own makeup pencil or lipstick and a colour match can be made from this.

We will check the brow colour three times during the procedure before finalizing it, each time you sit up to see your brows colour and can suggest to go lighter or darker before the final row.

    IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

No, not really. On a scale of 1-10, most clients report a discomfort of a 3.

If you are an eligible candidate without any medical conditions, adverse reaction or allergy, then the topical anaesthetic will be applied during our cosmetic tattooing procedures, however small amounts of discomfort is expected.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

    • Initial appointment: 2 hrs and 30 min including the consultation and numbing time (It might take longer in some cases).

    Perfecting touch up within 4-6 weeks: 1 hr/ 1 hr 30 min

    Annual Re-touch: 2 hrs.

HOW LONG WILL THE TREATMENT LAST?

Semi Permanent Makeup can last several years. This varies from person to person, depends on your skin type, diet, sun exposure, genetics and environmental factors which can all contribute to how long the pigments will be retained.

As a guide, it could be anything between one to five years before a new treatment is required, although refresher colour boosts are recommended for maintenance during this time.

We recommend a colour boost to be taken every 12-18 months to keep enhancements looking fresh. Should you choose not to have a yearly colour boost your enhancement will fade over a period of approximately 2-3 years. Lips and Eyeliners tend to last longer. It is important to remember that permanent make-up is a “low”, not a “no” maintenance treatment

    IS THERE A CANCELLATION POLICY?

All new tattoo appointments will require a $100 deposit that will come off the total price on the day. Deposits will not be refunded for cancellations with less than 48 (business hours) notice. For any cosmetic tattoo cancellations outside this period, we will refund your deposit. For more information please refer to TERMS & CONDITIONS.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT MY BOTOX TREATMENTS?

We recommend you to book your botox appointment at least 4-6 weeks before your initial brow tattooing appointment. This aids with symmetry and skins firmness.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?
    • Leave waxing/tinting 48 hrs leading up to your appointment.
    • Discontinue active skincare 1-2 weeks before treatment (e.g. Vitamin A, chemical peels,
 prescribed skincare etc.)
    • Inform us before your treatment of any medical conditions or severe allergies that may
interfere with treatment.
    • Do not take aspirin, niacin, vitamin E or Ibuprofen 48-72 hours prior to procedure (do not
cease regular medications unless talking to your GP).
    • On the day of your appointment make sure you have eaten sensibly and are well hydrated.
    • Please arrive to your appointment how you would normally pencil/powder your eyebrows.
    • You can bring your own prescribed numbing cream with your name and date written on it
 to the appointment.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY TREATMENT?

Immediately after treatment, the colour will appear darker than your chosen shade. This is because the pigment takes around seven days to enter the deeper layers of the skin.

    • After 7-10 days, exfoliation takes place. The top layer of the skin peels off, leaving a softer, lighter colour below. The result is a natural looking enhancement. As the treated area is settling down, itching may occur. This is a good sign as it means the skin is healing. Apply the recommended cream to the treated area as recommended

No alcohol on the day of your procedure.

Swelling and redness is minimal and usually subsides within 24 hour.

    • Do not scratch the area.
    • This will NOT prevent working or socialising.
WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE FOR SEMI PERMANENT MAKE UP PROCEDURES?

You cannot submerge the area in pool/salt water for a minimum of 2 weeks, therefore it is NOT recommended to plan this treatment close to any holidays or swimming events.

Makeup can be worn around, but not over the area for a minimum of 2 weeks.

    • It is not recommended to use any tanning products near the area while it is healing

A recommended tattoo balm will be applied to the area for 2 weeks.

Further aftercare instructions will be given to you at your appointment.

The skin takes 4-8 weeks to heal at a cellular level and for the true pigment colour to settle.

CAN I BRING MY FRIENDS AND/OR CHILDREN TO THE APPOINTMENT?

Unfortunately, our salon isn’t child friendly and due to Occupational Health & Safety, only the tattooist and client can be in the room during the procedure at all the times.

    HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?

Two treatments are usually needed, at least 4-8 weeks apart. Sometimes just one treatment is sufficient for some skin type. With most procedures, the colour fades dramatically after a week. For the second treatment, the practitioner gauges the colour retention and adds the required amount of pigment.

This is because as the area is healing, some parts may not ‘hold’ as well as others and you may have a few patches that need more colour. This is completely normal and everyone heals differently. Whatever the case, we advise you to always come back for your retouch. Occasionally a third visit is necessary for certain clients.

WILL I STILL NEED TO CONTINUE WAXING AND TINTING MY EYEBROWS?

Feather-Touch Brow Tattooing does not affect the natural brow growth, therefore, if your brow growth is naturally outside the shape that is created, brow waxing/threading may still be necessary. But most of my clients claim that the maintenance of their tattooed brows is much easier than before as they have a perfect shape and outline, makes it much easier to maintain it even by yourself.

In some cases, Feather-Touch Brow tattooing prevents the need for eyebrow tinting treatments, however in the case of a blonde or grey brow hair regular brow tinting may be desired.

CAN YOU WEAR MAKEUP AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Permanent cosmetics are typically used to enhance your natural features, therefore after your treatment has healed, you can wear makeup to complement and enhance your permanent cosmetics.

WILL I BE ABLE TO RETURN BACK TO WORK THE NEXT DAY?

Yes. Most clients show little sign of swelling or redness after treatment. The colour will be quite dark at first. It will soften and lighten within 10 days.

Lip treatment clients can experience moderate swelling and bruising and the colour will look strong for 3-7 days. With Lip tattoos, I recommend taking minimum 3-4 days off work. It is only with the full lip treatment that swelling can last for up to 72 hours or even a little longer and the lips will be extremely dry. Some mature age clients may experience very sore and rough lips for approximately 7 days.

IS THERE A RISK OF INFECTION?

There is a minimal risk of infection as strict hygiene standards are maintained. Sterile needles from sealed packets are used once only. To prevent cross contamination, the technician wears sterile gloves. An antibiotic cream is applied to the skin after treatment. Strict after care rules are given to the client at the end of each treatment.

WILL I BE ALLERGIC TO THE TREATMENT?

A skin test patch is offered upon request. However, an allergic reaction to pigments/dyes can occur immediately after or manifest years later whether or not skin test patch is performed. Allergic reactions are extremely rare.

CAN I GET THEM WET OR WORK OUT?

No, not for at least 48hours to keep the treated area dry and reduce the risk of complications or infection and to retain the maximum amount of pigment implanted.

After 48hrs no direct running water on the tattooed area (this means do not have the shower running onto your face). Use a soft face washer to wash your face and only dab at the tattooed area gently, no rubbing.

WHAT FACTORS WILL AFFECT SEMI-PERMANENT MAKEUP?

How long you spend in the sun. The sun fades the pigment faster so sun block may be used to prolong your enhancement. The regeneration of skin cells – the longer the regeneration takes the longer the pigment holds.

    • The speed at which the skin absorbs the pigment – the slower the absorption the longer the pigment will hold. The choice of colour – some colours fade quicker than others, e.g. a blonde colour will fade quicker than a dark brown colour.

The area of treatment – enhancements to the face, for example, fade more quickly due to constant exposure and product use.

    • Oily skin tends to lose colour more quickly than other skin type

    FAQ KISSABLE LIPS/COSMETIC TATTOOING

    What is lip blushing?

Lip blushing is a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that enhances the lips’ natural tint and shape, giving them a boost and a glossy touch. It’s designed to define and outline your lips, not to actually make them fuller. It gives the illusion that they’re fuller, but in a very natural way. It’s more or less like microblading for your lips!

DO’S AND DON’TS BEFORE A LIP BLUSHING APPOINTMENT

DO: Bring pictures/lipsticks in order to show to your cosmetic tattoo artist the colour that you want. Take a preventive tablet on the day of the appointment if you are prone to coldsores.
DON’T: Consume alcohol, caffeine, fish oil, Vitamin E, aspirin and ibuprofen as they cause the blood to thin and will result of more bleeding during the procedure.

DO’S AND DON’TS AFTER A LIP BLUSH TATTOO SESSION

DO: Use a lot of lip balm to keep your lips moisturised. Plan a follow up appointment with your permanent makeup artist.
DON’T: Pick your scabs. Never! Also, avoid sun exposure and workouts for around 2 weeks. Do not eat spicy food in the 48 hours following the session.

    What is Semi-Permanent Cosmetics?

There are a range of names used in the Cosmetic Tattooing industry: semi-permanent, permanent makeup, Cosmetic Tattooing, micro-pigmentation. These all mean the same application of cosmetic pigments being deposited into the dermal layer of skin, giving the illusion of traditional makeup, mainly for Eyebrow, lips and eyeliner.

How are Semi-Permanent Cosmetics Procedures performed?

Various tools are used to implant pigment into the skin. These tools range from a traditional tattoo machine (coil machine), to a pen-type (rotary or digital-rotary machine), or a non-mechanized manual device. The process includes an initial consultation, the pigment application procedure, and at least one finishing procedure where adjustments to the colour are made.

    Is the treatment painful?

The answer to this varies, based on the individuals tolerance to discomfort, and the skills of the technician performing the service. The semi permanent cosmetic industry benefits from several methods available that assist with comfort management. There are various non-prescription and prescription level topical anaesthetic creams, ointments and gel preparations. Sometimes the technician will suggest the option of using a doctor to administer local anaesthetic injections. Your technician will discuss these methods with you to determine which are offered and which method is most appropriate for your procedure.

    How long will it last?

This varies from person to person because skin type, diet, genetics and environmental factors can all contribute to how long the pigment will be retained.
As a guide, it could be anything between one to five years before a new treatment is required, although refresher colour boosts are recommended for maintenance within this time. Once you notice the colour starting to change, this is a good indication that you are due for a colour boost, which keeps your cosmetic tattoo refreshed. Oily skin types may not be a good candidate for microblading and may need to consider another style or method.

It is important to remember that cosmetic tattooing is “low” not a “no” maintenance treatment.

Can I resume normal activities after the procedure?

Each client is unique. Generally there is some swelling of the tattooed area. While eyebrows may show little after effect, eyeliner and lip procedures may produce more swelling lasting from two to seventy-two hours. During the procedure, there may be some bleeding and although rare, some bruising. There is usually some tenderness for a few days. The immediate post-procedure colour is darker than you may expect after five to ten days of healing. A good recommendation is to plan your semi permanent cosmetic procedure when you have no special events to attend for several days afterward.

How long will a procedure take?

Treatment times vary depending on how advanced or detailed the required result is. Although some treatments make take as little as 1 hour, you should set aside 2-3 hours for your appointment.

    How quick will it heal?

Everyone is different, but as a general rule the surface skin generally heals between 3-7 days after the treatment and 10-14 days below the surface. After eyeliner we do not advise driving, in case your eyes are a little swollen or watery immediately after the treatment.

What will I look like straight after the treatment?

Eyebrows and eye liner treatments tend to look darker in colour immediately after the appointment, while lip colours can look more intense. This softens in a few days. Lips are likely to have some residual swelling and can chap, looking dry and flaky. There may be some slight swelling after eyeliner treatments but this is usually limited

What is a ‘touch-up’ / Colour boost and when do I need one?

The tattooed colour or design may require adjustment after the initial procedure. The application of semi permanent make up is a process. At least one follow-up visit should be scheduled to determine if additional work is necessary. Following up “Finishing” visits are scheduled from four to six weeks after the initial procedure. After the initial and follow up visits are complete, the timing for your future colour refresher depends on your personal preference but is usually at the one year anniversary. No one can really say exactly when you need or want a colour refresher, it is a personal preference and I have a special price for yearly touch-ups. Often, the traditional makeup test is the guide. That is, when you find yourself using traditional makeup to ‘touch up’ your semi permanent cosmetics, it is time for a colour boost visit.

    Before Procedure Care

    All Treatments
Please avoid taking blood thinning medications (aspirin) or fish or krill oils 7 days before procedure.
Do not wear makeup on area being tattooed.

    Lip Treatment
One to two weeks before Lip Treatment
If you are having any Lip Tattoo procedures performed and have previously suffered from Cold Sores or Mouth Ulcers it is essential that you consult with your GP prior to treatment. Lip Tattoo treatment may aggravate this condition and cause an outbreak. Your GP must provide you with a script for Anti –Viral Medication (this may include Valtrex, Famvir or Zovirax) which is to be taken prior to your appointment. L-Lysine tablets will also be beneficial as a preventive treatment.
Please exfoliate by brushing your lips gently with a toothbrush 1 day prior to the appointment. This will also stimulate blood flow and improve collagen in the lips. The aim is to improve recovery from any side effects of your Treatment. Also apply Moisturiser to lips prior to appointment to keep them hydrated.

    Eyebrow or Eyeliner Treatment
Forty eight hours before tattoo procedure (eyeliner and eyebrows) Please do not tint your eyelashes or eyebrows prior to an eyebrow or eyeliner tattoo procedure.
On the day of your procedure (eyeliner and brows)
Please do not wear contact lenses or makeup of any kind on eye area. Delicate or sensitive skin is susceptible to puffiness, redness and swelling.

Not Recommended for Cosmetic Tattooing Procedures. Anyone with any conditions that result in taking blood thinning medications such as Warfran
Anyone with Type One Diabetes or uncontrolled Type Two Diabetes.
Anyone with low levels of iron.

    After Procedure Care

    All Treatments

Post – procedure instructions & information
Avoid important social plans or strenuous activity for a few days after treatment.
Please do not go swimming for at least 10 days following treatment. Do not wear makeup on area for one week following treatments as this may affect tattoo pigment.
Only use the aftercare cream provided or recommended by your therapist.
Do not have laser or facial treatments until cosmetic tattoo site has finished healing.
Colours will appear darker and then soften after a few days.
Use aftercare cream in a thin film 3-4 times a day or whenever area is dry use for 7 days.
Do not touch unless applying after care.
Do not pick or scratch tattoo.
Do not use paw paw cream on any tattoo areas.
Please re-book for your perfection visit in 4-6 weeks time.
If the area is red or swollen use an ice pack for no more than 5 mins at a time.

After your Permanent Cosmetic procedure, slight redness and irritation of the area should be expected. However, heavy bleeding and inflammation should not occur. Depending on your skin sensitivity, swelling of the area may persist. During the healing process, every morning and evening, wash the area with a mild cleanser. Avoid harsh cleansers, such as exfoliators and acid-based products. Gently pat the area dry with a clean towel and apply a thin layer of your aftercare cream. Neglecting to moisturise the area daily with a thin layer of the aftercare cream, will cause scabbing and loss of pigment. If scabbing or peeling occurs, remember to not pick the treated area.
